Week 05: Lab Session Tutorial Plan

One of the joy of internet marketing is the lightbulb moment when you realise, five weeks into class, that you could be publishing a tutorial schedule to help structure the lab time as your blog content for the class blog.

So, Week 5, and the schedule.

  • Three objectives
    • 1. Time to take a benchmark look at our blogs, sites and pick on the lecturer's site for being quite so badly designed for SEO.
      • Here's how - go to SocialButterfly's post on 9 web analytic sites
      • Pick one or more of the sites.
      • Run your blog through the site metrics
      • Amuse yourself by comparing your scores against either www.stephendann.net or http://mktg2032.wordpress.com/
      • Start exploring options for upgrading and enhancing your own scores
    • 2. Blog content. If you're on a weekly schedule, take the time to run some content. Practice with Del.icio.us, back-linking, or surfing through Technorati to find a topic. Also check out Copyblogger on content development
    • 3. Have a bit of fun with the lab session. Push the envelop a bit on your skills, try something new, and don't be afraid of breaking the Internet by pressing strange buttons on unknown control panels....
  • Other class based activity
    • Load Twitter up in the background, and use it to ask for help, or offer help back to each other.
    • See if you can't get PhotoShop Express to work in the lab
  • Other suggestions? leave them in the comments
