That will be followed by an open door policy at my office, running 2pm(ish) to 6pm(ish) on the Friday as extended consultation time sessions for MKTG7037 and MKTG2032

Any questions?Dr Stephen Dannhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14377233596875525907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2663422232704466059.post-79490583932396956552008-05-01T16:23:00.002+10:002008-05-02T10:30:50.844+10:00Week 08: Improvisation theatre (of the damned)Friday's class is a little bit on the freeform side...

1. PostGrads! Front and centre. I want to know when you're presenting, what's the topic, and how are you delivering the content. Plus, a chance to work with me in the labs on getting your topics set, structured and coordianted.

2. UnderGrads! Blog work, assignment work, and a chance to ask me awkward questions about the content of the internet subject.

3. In-between Grads! Short lab session this week - unless you have something you want to discuss, or want me to walk you through some online content, there's no compulsion to attend the session. It's been a tough week for submissions in other MKTG subjects, so a short session and Friday afternoon off seems a good plan.

Dr Stephen Dannhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14377233596875525907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2663422232704466059.post-67856141556394099372008-04-14T11:25:00.004+10:002008-04-16T09:13:46.755+10:00Presentation Advice: Screencast EditionSince the presentation series is coming up for the postgrads, it's time for some links and advice for presentations

5 Free Screencasting Apps for Creating Video Tutorials | MakeUseOf.com
Five more ways and means to make the screencast work.

How to Make a Great How-To Video | MakeUseOf.com
Another screencasting tool (yes, I'm pushing screencasting really hard this semester) for the postgrads to consider using for their presentations.

SlideRocket - Create, Manage, and Share Presentations on the Web
Slide presentation creation site with the toolkits to make the presentations online. Technical elements

For those of you with blogs that are personal experiences, and exercises in the self publishing of your life, the question becomes one of how you promote, or don't promote, the blog, and where the information travels across the internet. Start with the Icerocket blog search, then move onto a standard Google search, and follow that with a Google Blog Search

If you're doing a blog with an aim towards fame, fortune, search engine placing or notoriety, then I'd recommended starting with the standard google search, stepping up to the Google Blog search, then heading over toTechnorati,

2. Personal Elements

How happy are you with the way your blog is findable on the internet?

3. Research Elements

Load up Proquest (or indirectly off the Library).

Search for articles on online promotion, blogging, blog promotion or any other key terms you think will help.

Note the difference in the opinions and styles of the material under the sub categories of

Scholarly Journals

Magazines

Trade Publications, and

Newspapers

Read through a few different sources, and see if there are any lessons, elements or ideas you can draw on to promote your blog, or promote someone else's blogs.

Make use of the in-class twitter functionality to share ideas, blog posts or content. Feel free to ask a question on Twitter outside of the class time as well.

4. Cash Based Promoting
This is a little more tricky - I'm not asking you to buy paid advertising for your class blogs. What I'd like you to do is search around for different paid and unpaid online advertising networks, and post your results to the class Twitter or as a reply to this blog post.

5. Advert design
Ask me how - on the class twitter - and I'll give you this challenge.

<fieldset class="zemanta-related" style="margin: 0.5em 0pt 1em; padding: 0pt;"><legend class="zemanta-title">Related articles</legend>

Remove Spam from Google Blog Search [via Zemanta]

</fieldset>

Dr Stephen Dannhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14377233596875525907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2663422232704466059.post-43518200921876929702008-03-28T10:20:00.000+11:002008-03-28T10:29:42.744+11:00Week 05: Lab Session Tutorial PlanOne of the joy of internet marketing is the lightbulb moment when you realise, five weeks into class, that you could be publishing a tutorial schedule to help structure the lab time as your blog content for the class blog.

So, Week 5, and the schedule.

Three objectives

1. Time to take a benchmark look at our blogs, sites and pick on the lecturer's site for being quite so badly designed for SEO.

Here's how - go to SocialButterfly's post on 9 web analytic sites

Pick one or more of the sites.

Run your blog through the site metrics

Amuse yourself by comparing your scores against either www.stephendann.net or http://mktg2032.wordpress.com/

Start exploring options for upgrading and enhancing your own scores

2. Blog content. If you're on a weekly schedule, take the time to run some content. Practice with Del.icio.us, back-linking, or surfing through Technorati to find a topic. I retain first and last right of refusal to cover a topic, but I'll only invoke that if I think the topic is outside the realms of taste, or I can't safely research it at work on a filtered university web account.Dr Stephen Dannhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14377233596875525907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2663422232704466059.post-3075859517589170382008-03-11T18:29:00.000+11:002008-03-11T18:32:15.755+11:00IntroductionThe MKTG7037 course work blog is the second blog in the ANU eMarketing program. The first blog MKTG2032 is a links round up blog, whereas this is more of a discussion and metacommentary blog. Posts here will be more opinionated commentary rather than annotated bibliography.Dr Stephen Dannhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14377233596875525907noreply@blogger.com0
